Dave Satre
Dave Satre has been playing the trumpet for more years than he can remember, although we think this is just the result of a failing memory. Our research shows he must have started the instrument in the fourth grade and has been playing the damned thing for goin' on a half-a-century. He was lucky enough to grow up in a small Minnesota town (Lake Wobegon) that had an outstanding music program. Dave went to the Navy Music School and played in the Third Army band in Atlanta and the Seventh Division band in Korea during a three-year stint in the Army. He played lead in the San Jose State jazz ensemble and was the principle trumpet of the university's symphonic band while earning a BA degree in music.
Dave taught instrumental music in local schools for many years, but now makes his living through technical writing. He plays several other instruments, although time constraints keep him pretty well focused on the trumpet and fluglehorn these days. He still plays the flute and Renaissance recorder on occasion and has been known to haul out a tuba for the annual Christmas Tubafest.
Dave also plays regularly in several other local big bands, including Elby Coy's band and Vernon Brooks' Latin big band. Dave is the Swing Solution's marketing director, and is responsible for the development of this Web page.
