Jon Familant
  1st Tenor

Jon received early exposure to jazz studies at the Stanford Jazz Workshop.  He went on to DeAnza, Foothill and San Mateo colleges, where he played in combos and big bands and studied Jazz performance and Jazz Theory.  Under the tutelage of Robert Farrenting, Tom Hart and  John Gove, he experienced playing the various styles of the big band genre, which gave him a greater command of the art form.

Big bands he has performed with include De Anza, Foothill and Johnny Lampson, just to name a few. He is presently playing tenor, flute and clarinet while holding down the 1st tenor chair with The Swing Solution, The Footnotes and  the Joe Ferrari band.

His musical influences are Lester Young, Zoot Sims, Charlie Parker, Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James, Coleman Hawkins, Maynard Ferguson, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Teddy Wilson, Art Tatum, JP Johnson, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and many more.

While in High School Jon received the Annette Austin award in music.  He loves to hear music and play it on a regular basis. His other interests include playing basketball, tennis and reading biographies.
