A Day of Remembrance
A Tribute to WW II Veterans and Members of The Greatest Generation

Where Were YOU in August 1945? We plan to recreate a day in 1945 at San Jose's History Park, including autos from the period and a dance featuring The Swing Solution playing the popular swing music of the era, to celebrate the contributions of American Veterans to world peace and their role in the development of this country in the postwar period. Come and share your memories of the era. Special guests include veterans and other members of The Greatest Generation.

This is a fun event and a fitting tribute to America's veterans. It is the second annual event organized by the City of San Jose, which is hoping this Day of Remembrance will provide the model for cities and towns all over America to participate in a national Day of Remembrance on every future second Sunday in August.
The Stories of Service program encourages youth to participate in the recording of the personal stories of WW II vets and the creation of a database in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. It is important to gather these stories before they are lost forever and many WW II vets have been reluctant to discuss their experiences. They should be encouraged to do so. They all have stories, many of which they have never discussed even with their family members, and they need to be told. Members of the generation who served on the home front, the Rosie the Riveters, the victory gardeners, the families of GIs, are also encouraged to record their memories.
San Jose's Historical Park, which features homes, businesses and other buildings from San Jose's early years, will provide the background for this celebration. The idea is to return to a day in the 1940's, with antique cars of the era and people dressed in the clothing of the day. There will be exhibits and a variety of events. Many veterans and vet organizations are expected to participate.

St John The Baptist Church Festival in Milpitas

This is a festival with food, carnival rides and a variety of entertainment. The Swing Solution will bring its brand of toe-tappingly irresistible swing music to the affair and we intend to get the crowd on its feet. Come and join us --- we plan to have the joint jumpin' and we're all going to have a swinging time!
